The robin is one of my favourite birds because they are so obliging and friendly. One of the easiest garden birds to photograph. And I’m not the only fan – the nation voted the robin its favourite bird.
Here are some of the photos I’ve managed to capture of robins this winter. Currently the robin in our garden regularly greets me as I come back from my daily walk and he sits there on the bush near the front door as I struggle to get the pram through. I’ve started offering a hand of seeds to him – with a little patience, I hope to have him feeding out of my hand.

Lovely pictures as always. I love robins too but dare not attract birds to near enough the house to see them properly because I have 3 cats, two of whom love catching birds. It seems mean to tempt the birds to risk their lives. Instead I try to create lots of habitats and places where they can be safe even if it means I only know they are there if one gets caught.
Thank you, that’s kind. I have a cat as well but our front garden is super small so she doesn’t have the space to pounce them. I did also read somewhere (I think it was the RSPB?) that domestic cats account for very little in terms of the deaths of garden birds – and birds face much greater threats. Also, cats tend to get the birds that are old or ill (or the babies…)
But 3 cats may be a challenge so I think you are wise. :)

What delightfully beautiful photos! I saw my first flock of Robins here yesterday, but ours look totally different than yours and are more brown. I wish we had your variety too, but either way, they are a delightful sign that spring can’t be far away.
Are you in the states? As I think the american robin is part of the thrush family. Our robins don’t flock. They are actually very territorial and aggressive here, despite their cuteness.

Yes, I’m in the states, in Ohio. Our robins are just arriving and come and leave in flocks. But at mating season, they pair off and become very territorial too. It is very common to see the males fighting in early spring for a lady or an area.
