Hello and welcome to Autumn! Isn’t it wonderful?
Here’s a few photos of what I’ve been up to so far this season. Recently I visited Taverham Mill in Norfolk. Here is a nature reserve on my doorstep that I didn’t even know about (because I thought it was just a fishery, which it is also is, but in the last few years has been deemed a nature reserve in its own right.)
The 100 acre site contains 4 lakes and is situated along the river Wensum, an SSSI. The highlight of my walk was certainly hanging out with the highland cattle, which have horns and an impressive fringe and are so gentle and calm.
If you’re interested in the history of the site, have a look at this site about Norfolk mills.
Beautiful.
Thank you, Becky :D
I would definitely stay away from those horns, docile as these bovines look.
Yeah, I was behind a solid fence and quite happy to stay there just watching.
Great photos!
Thanks!
Now the NDR is open, how long now before they blast a road through the Wensum Valley? I see people already calling for it on Twitter :(
Oh no really? I thought they had inadvertently skirted the Wensum because land owners in Ringland wouldn’t allow the road through their nice pretty villages. (That would actually have been the only convenient part for me of this damn NDR!)
For me too! Now driving from Holt to Norwich it’s four roundabouts instead of the previous one.
btw I’m pretty sure those are Highland Cattle, although to be fair they’re sometimes called Highland Longhorns ;). English Longhorns are very different – I met some on the Pennine Way! http://www.longhorncattlesociety.com/
Well you are quite correct. I visited somewhere recently with actual longhorn cattle and have confused the two. I will amend and send myself off for re-education! :D
Yes love the fall colours. Wonderful photos (esp. the surprising longhorns!).
Thanks for your comment 😁 who doesn’t like a random cow
What is an SSSI, please? Impressive bulls….close by, unknown wonders are a theme with us, as well.
Thanks!!
Hi Michael, I should have explained (everyone hates acronyms!) it stand for Site of Special Scientific Interest, which usually means it’s a location with a rare or endangered species of flora or fauna.
Very good, Clarission. Thanks for the quick response. Once an acronym is a habit…it is difficult to recognize.
Beautiful creatures, I’m slightly obsessed by them. Thanks for sharing.
They’re seemed so gentle and friendly and so cute, still didn’t risk getting in the same field with them though, haha
